How To Make A Cover For Your Dress Form

You just bought a dress form, but you’re not satisfied with the way it looks. Obviously, it has a dull appearance, which isn’t at all inspiring for you. It seems so common and impersonal! You want to make it look more personal, friendly, since it will act as your own assistant during your creative process of fashion designing. So what can you do about this? Well, make a cover for it! Yes, this is the solution to make it look more personal, more like a friend, a helping hand that you’ll love to use when creating your beautiful garments.

But how can you make a cover for your dress form? Although there are various ways to do this, some of them are very complicated. However, we’ll present you a simple method to make a cover for your dress form.

So let’s see what you need to do to make a nice cover for your dress form.

  1. First of all, take a stretchy fabric and pin alongside join. Some examples of fabric that work best include ribbed knit or jersey. Stretch the fabric as needed. Once you have done this, mark the cutting line between the pins and cut piece. Repeat this process for the back.
  2. Join the two pieces that you created with overcast machine. Use looser threads to serge the hem.
  3. Tale a thick cotton thread and pass it through loops in the hem.
  4. Tighten and gather fabric at the bottom of the dress form, then tie the threads.

This is all, now you have your cover done! Easy, isn’t it? Well, following these four simple steps, you can do as many covers for your dress form, as you want. It is recommended to have at least two, so you can easily swap between them, when you want to wash the cover. Oh, right! We forgot to mention that besides the fact that having a cover for your dress form gives it a more personal feeling, it is also helpful, as it helps you to keep your dress form clean.

However, another benefit of having a cover for your dress form is that you can pin fabric to the cover. This is especially helpful in case your dress form isn’t pinnable.

So now that you know how to make a cover for your dress form, you’ll probably want to make as many as you can. This way, you’ll be able to change them as many times as you want, to change the appearance of your form. You can make the covers from various fabrics, to get the covers that will make you happy every time you use your dress form to create your garments.

Isn’t it just wonderful to be able to change the appearance of your helping hand as many times as you want? Just think about how easy it will be for you to see your helping hand as it transforms into a different “fake assistant” every time you want. It’ll be like you have a real friend with you to help you during your creative process of making garments.
